2026 Canada Wildfire Season Review
This page tracks the season to date using official provincial and territorial records available to FireRadar. Year-end comparisons will use equivalent periods from the daily archive once they are complete.
Current season figures
FireRadar can report current official active-fire counts, newly observed incidents, recent status changes, reported active hectares and day-over-day changes. These figures describe records currently available to FireRadar; they do not replace final agency statistics.
- Provincial and territorial incident records remain separate from CWFIS national records.
- NASA FIRMS hotspots are not counted as confirmed fires.
- Out or extinguished incidents use FireRadar’s documented 48-hour display window.
- Missing size values remain missing rather than becoming zero hectares.
Year-end figures
A final review needs complete time periods and consistent definitions. FireRadar will use its daily archive for active-fire timelines and jurisdiction rankings. National burned area, total annual fires, suppression costs, evacuations and damages must come from the agencies that publish those measures.
Compare equivalent dates rather than a partial season against a completed year.
Keep active incidents, new incidents, hotspots, and burned area as different metrics.
State which values come from FireRadar observations and which come from official annual reporting.
After the active season
The completed review will provide year-end context for residents, researchers, media and students. It will also preserve what FireRadar recorded during the season without turning daily figures into unsupported annual claims.
