For the 2026wildfire season, FireRadar is Canada-wide by design and built for continuously operated wildfire tracking. Connected official-wildfire sources are checked on a controlled production schedule, and current snapshots are republished only after validation succeeds. FireRadar normalizes direct provincial and territorial wildfire records into one interface where a confirmed public incident source is available, while using explicitly labelled national continuity when direct coverage is unavailable, degraded, or not integrated. Satellite observations remain separate. The goal is national consistency without pretending that every jurisdiction publishes the same data, the same fields, or at the same speed. That makes FireRadar's live Canada fire map a current national starting point without turning a FireRadar fetch time into an agency publication claim. Source timestamps remain distinct from FireRadar ingestion times so users can see what the responsible agency actually published and when FireRadar observed it.

Use the search box to look up a Canadian address, community, province, or territory. The address preview summarizes nearby official incidents and satellite hotspots within 50 kilometres and identifies the nearest result in each category when data is available. Selecting a province or territory opens a jurisdiction summary and dedicated map page. The layer menu lets you move between FireRadar Wildfires, recent out or extinguished records, NASA FIRMS hotspots, Environment and Climate Change Canada's FireWork wildfire-smoke forecast, and current ECCC AQHI observations. National continuity is handled automatically inside Wildfires and retains distinct provenance when used.

Wildfire incidents

FireRadar prioritizes public provincial or territorial wildfire feeds where available. Status wording, size, cause, first-reported time, and agency source-update time depend on what the source publishes. FireRadar keeps unavailable fields unavailable rather than filling them with unrelated values, records its own retrieval time separately from the agency timestamp, and labels national continuity rather than presenting it as a direct local-authority record.

FireRadar observation history

FireRadar retains daily activity and incident-change observations so the product can answer not only what is happening now, but what FireRadar observed changing over time. Province and territory history pages keep their archive window visible and do not backfill days FireRadar never observed.

Recent out and extinguished fires

The out layer shows recent official records that a source marks out, extinguished, inactive, declared out, being patrolled, or an equivalent status. It is short-term map context; FireRadar's retained observation archive is the separate historical product.

Satellite hotspots

NASA FIRMS VIIRS hotspots are thermal detections observed from space. A hotspot can relate to wildfire activity, but it can also be a repeated observation, industrial heat, or another heat source. Cloud, smoke, satellite timing, and source filtering can also hide real activity. Do not add hotspot counts to official fire totals.

CWFIS national continuity

Natural Resources Canada's Canadian Wildland Fire Information System remains an important upstream source for national continuity, validation, historical context, and wildfire science. It is not a separate public wildfire mode. When validated CWFIS continuity is needed because direct jurisdiction coverage cannot provide a current usable record, FireRadar can show it inside Wildfires with distinct provenance instead of silently presenting it as direct provincial or territorial data.

Canada wildfire smoke map and 72-hour forecast

The optional smoke layer uses Environment and Climate Change Canada's FireWork model to show hourly, ground-level wildfire-smoke PM2.5 guidance for up to 72 hours. It is a forecast rather than an observation. The separate AQHI layer shows current station-based health-risk observations that can reflect wildfire smoke and other pollutants.

FireRadar is designed for public situational awareness, not emergency decision-making. It does not replace official emergency notices, road closures, air-quality advisories, local restrictions, or instructions from emergency officials. For urgent decisions, follow the responsible provincial, territorial, municipal, First Nations, or emergency-management authority.

Satellite, smoke, and air-quality datasets remain distinct so unlike information is not presented as one fire count.

How often is the Canada wildfire map updated?

FireRadar checks connected official-wildfire sources on a controlled production schedule and republishes verified snapshots after successful validation. Production cadence can change as scheduling controls evolve, while individual provincial, territorial, national-continuity, and satellite sources publish on their own schedules. Source-update and FireRadar-ingestion timestamps remain separate so the actual freshness of each record and dataset is visible.

Is FireRadar a real-time wildfire map?

FireRadar is designed for continuously updated wildfire tracking, but it is not an instantaneous emergency feed. FireRadar cannot display a change before the responsible source publishes it, and source timestamps remain separate from FireRadar ingestion timestamps wherever available.

Are satellite hotspots confirmed wildfires?

No. NASA FIRMS VIIRS hotspots are satellite-detected heat signals. They can support situational awareness, but they are not confirmed wildfire incidents, fire perimeters, emergency zones, or official fire counts.

Why can FireRadar differ from a provincial wildfire map?

FireRadar combines many source systems that can update at different times and use different status definitions. A provincial or territorial authority remains the primary source for local incident details, restrictions, emergency information, and safety instructions.

Does FireRadar show every wildfire in Canada?

FireRadar shows records available through the connected public sources. Coverage and published fields vary by jurisdiction, and a missing marker does not prove that no fire, smoke, or local hazard exists.
