Why this does not say “area burned”
This page totals the sizes reported for active fires on each archived date. The total can rise or fall as fires change, close or are updated. It is not cumulative annual area burned.
What the FireRadar series includes
The series uses official provincial and territorial incident records available to FireRadar. CWFIS national records and NASA FIRMS satellite hotspots are excluded to avoid double-counting. Missing sizes remain missing, and jurisdictions without a confirmed official source are not treated as zero.
