Wildfire context for Thunder Bay District
Thunder Bay District extends far beyond the city into extensive boreal forest, Lake Superior shorelines, remote communities, mining and forestry areas, wilderness parks, and long Highway 11, 17, and northern access roads. Fires can affect communities and infrastructure separated by hundreds of kilometres while smoke moves across the wider district.
Why this place-level view is useful
