The Lake Superior north shore combines rugged forested terrain, cliffs and river valleys, remote parks, rail and power infrastructure, forestry activity, and long Highway 11 and 17 sections with limited alternates. Wildfires can affect nationally important road travel, parks and backcountry use, nearby communities, utilities, and smoke across a corridor where incidents may be far apart but operationally connected.
