How to read smoke around Saskatoon
Saskatoon is well south of Saskatchewan's most extensive boreal wildfire region, but large northern fires can transport smoke hundreds of kilometres into central and southern parts of the province. Plumes can also arrive from Alberta, Manitoba, or farther away. Wind and frontal changes often determine whether regional smoke reaches ground level locally.
Forecast, not a measurement
FireWork estimates near-surface PM2.5 attributable to wildfire smoke. It can differ from actual conditions around Saskatoon because emissions, wind, terrain, mixing, precipitation, and model timing change. Use current AQHI observations and local health advisories when conditions matter to health.
