How FireRadar uses CWFIS
The Canadian Wildland Fire Information System (CWFIS) publishes national wildfire information from Natural Resources Canada. FireRadar may use its records when current local wildfire information is unavailable, and always labels those records as CWFIS data.
One wildfire map, clearly labelled sources
FireRadar uses provincial and territorial wildfire authorities first where their current information is available. When CWFIS fills a gap, the record remains clearly identified as national data rather than being presented as a local authority record.
Provincial and territorial authorities first
BC Wildfire Service, Alberta Wildfire, Ontario AFFES, SOPFEU and other wildfire authorities remain FireRadar's preferred sources. FireRadar preserves their published status, update time, cause, size and identifiers where available.
CWFIS can fill some gaps
When local wildfire information is unavailable or delayed, CWFIS records can provide national information. They remain labelled as CWFIS records and are not renamed as provincial or territorial records.

Cross-check sources
Help FireRadar identify possible missing fires, unusual count differences or location discrepancies.
Historical context
Support long-range Canadian wildfire history through national datasets such as the Canadian National Fire Database and national burned-area products where appropriate.
Scientific information
Provide Canadian fire-weather, Fire Danger, fire-behaviour, forecast and related scientific products from Natural Resources Canada.
Prince Edward Island and Nunavut
FireRadar does not currently have a connected local active-fire source for Prince Edward Island or Nunavut. CWFIS may provide additional national information for these jurisdictions, but FireRadar does not present it as local-authority data or turn unavailable local totals into zero.
Use the right system for the right job
FireRadar shows current wildfires, source labels, smoke, air quality, history, saved items and alerts. CWFIS remains the official Natural Resources Canada resource for national fire-weather indices, fire-behaviour models, fuel products, seasonal outlooks, climatology and long-term research datasets.
