Where official perimeters are available
FireRadar can show current perimeters from the authorities below. Not every fire has a perimeter, and availability can change as an authority updates its information.
What is not shown as a current perimeter
No boundary estimated from size
Reported hectares are not converted into a circle or estimated burn boundary.
No boundary made from hotspots
Satellite thermal detections are not joined together and labelled as an official perimeter.
No boundary without a confirmed match
A published boundary is excluded if FireRadar cannot confidently link it to the official fire.
No old boundary shown as current
An older perimeter is not presented as the selected fire's current official boundary.
Wildfire perimeter FAQ
Why doesn't every wildfire have a perimeter?
A perimeter appears only when the responsible provincial or territorial authority publishes a boundary for that fire. Many authorities publish a fire location before a boundary, update locations more often, or do not publish boundaries for every fire.
Is the wildfire marker the fire boundary?
No. The marker is the location or reference point reported for the fire. FireRadar does not estimate a boundary from the reported fire size. When an official perimeter is available, it appears separately after you select the fire.
Are satellite hotspots wildfire perimeters?
No. NASA FIRMS hotspots are thermal detections and remain a separate observation layer. FireRadar never converts hotspot clusters into an official wildfire boundary.
Can FireRadar show an older perimeter when no current one exists?
Not as a current boundary. Older perimeter records are kept separate so they are not mistaken for the fire's present boundary.
