Great Slave Lake is one of the world's largest lakes, bordered by boreal forest, Indigenous communities, territorial highways, remote cabins, fishing and boating areas, hydro and utility infrastructure, and vast roadless shorelines. Wildfires can affect Yellowknife, Hay River, Fort Resolution, remote properties, and smoke in very different ways around the lake. The lake is a major regional geography and shared reference point across multiple Northwest Territories communities. Official methodology and source

Natural Resources Canada publishes the Fire Weather Index through the Canadian Wildland Fire Information System. FireRadar requests that public source layer directly and preserves its symbology instead of calculating a separate local danger rating.
